James Townsend launches reprographics business Think Repro

James Townsend has expanded its service offering and aims to utilise spare capacity with the launch of its new reprographics company, Think Repro.

The Exeter-based labels and packaging specialist has identified new sales channels within the packaging pre-press sectors with the launch of the five-staff company.

Think Repro will use its Screen platesetters, Esko, and DuPont Cyrel Fast plate equipment as well as a newly-installed Roland VersaUV LEC-330 wide-format printer to serve a range of new clients.

According to Kristian Wells, prepress manager at James Townsend, the new business will enable Think Repro to sell its repro and print services to companies in the packaging space.

"We've been offering repro to some smaller local commercial printers but with the launch of Think Repro, we can target larger packaging businesses that need repro and also print services," he said.

The company's Roland VersaUV machine is linked to its GMG colour management workflow, which includes ColorProof, InkOptimizer and PrintControl.

It complements an existing Digital Cromalin system, which is capable of producing a white ink using toner, but Wells claimed that individual proof production was proving both inefficient and expensive.

He said: "We needed a cost effective solution that was simple to use, an inkjet proofer that was able to print white ink and to cope with all our material, including clear film and metallic substrates,"

"We are very happy with the performance of all the products, so when it came to looking at new proofing equipment, it was vital for us that GMG was driving the front end."
