CPI holds third Senior Management Symposium
The impact of environmental regulations on energy costs is one of the key issues facing the UK paper industry, according to the Confederation of Paper Industries (CPI).
Speakers at the CPI's third Senior Management Symposium, held on 13 October at the Stationer's Hall in London, highlighted the issue as one of the key challenges facing the industry.
Other key issues outlined at the event included the growing economic uncertainty, changing perceptions on products and packaging, and the need for an EU resource efficient economy.
Commodities and pricing were also discussed, as well as the impact of China and its appetite for recycled material.
David Workman, who took over as CPI director general in April this year, praised the contribution of the speakers at the event, including the "excellent keynote speech from [Smurfit Kappa Group chief operations officer] Tony Smurfit".
CPI represents papermakers, tissue manufacturers, corrugated packaging producers and recovered paper merchants. It represents 75 member companies with a combined annual turnover of £4bn.
