Trinity Mirror doles out £500m newspaper distribution contracts
Newspaper publisher Trinity Mirror has awarded a series of distribution contracts with a retail value of more than £500m.
Distribution specialists Smiths News, Menzies Distribution and Newspread have benefited from the contracts, which will commence on Monday 5 October.
However, Dawson News, which has been a long-term partner of Trinity, publisher of the Daily Mirror, has missed out in the reshuffle.
In a statement to the stock exchange this morning, Dawson said the loss was "not unexpected". It added that revenues associated with the contract were £65m.
Mark Hollinshead, managing director of Trinity Mirror’s Nationals division, said: "We would like to thank Dawson News for the support, help and commitment they have given to us during a very long association."
The contracts will cover the distribution of Trinity's portfolio of titles, both national and regional, as well as Independent News and Media and Centurycomm titles. The contracts, which cover the UK and the Republic of Ireland, will run for five years.
Hollinshead added: "Our firm objective throughout the contract negotiations has been to achieve a sustainable route to market for our titles while simultaneously ensuring that retailers receive the best possible service.
"Work has already begun to ensure there is a smooth transition for our new distribution network."
