Gecko and Carlsberg team up for pub print service
Carlsberg has teamed up with Gecko, the print management company, to provide pub landlords with templates to create and order their own personalised direct mail and printed items.
The Danish brewer’s online portal, We Deliver More, is designed to help public houses market themselves better. Carlsberg provides a database of 26m consumers that publicans can target.
The move comes as figures from the British Beer and Pub Association suggest pub closures have risen by 40% in 2008, with a record six pubs closing per day.
The facility allows users to create menus, Point of Sale material and event planners, using a print-on-demand service. Gecko uses a roster of printers to produce the material depending on the size of the job and the items required.
Andy Milner, development director at Gecko, said: The campaign targets around 7,500 pubs that use Carlsberg products. The service is free, but pubs pay for the printed items.
The service allows users to create a range of items, some branded, some not. There are also occasional jobs upcoming including special Valentine’s Day items to raise awareness.
David Scott, head of on-trade customer marketing for Carlsberg, said: "Our focus is not on helping our customers sell more of our beer, but on helping our customers attract more custom full-stop.
We have recognised the need for large brewers such as ourselves to work much more closely with the on-trade and offer them genuine support across the key areas of people, sales and savings.
Customers can create a special menu for the FA Cup Final, with food and drink specials supported by footbal-themed posters and have everything delivered to their door.
