Enigin offers green energy makeover to print firms

Enigin has launched a new division using government environmental schemes and energy brokers to guarantee companies annual energy savings of between 30 and 40%.

Enigin launched in November 2007 and promises customers a return on investment of two years for its energy cutting EnergyMaps service and allows them to take advantage of Carbon Trust funding and government capital allowance tax breaks to back the outlay.

The company is currently trialling the service with two unnamed UK printers, but already boasts more than 70 customers including London Underground.

The firm initially installs monitoring equipment at the clients premises and over a period of 20 weeks gathers data on power usage at the plant.

It then identifies specific points where savings can be made and installs a range of energy-saving products to achieve this. It also brings in energy brokers to ensure supply is competitive. It then works out a guaranteed percentage energy saving and it will refund any difference between this and the actual savings achieved.

The service is paid for over four years, although the company promises that customers will have recouped the cost within two.

Print customers with a turnover of less than £35m are able to take advantage of Carbon Trust funding for businesses, as Enigin is recognised by the scheme, offering an interest-free loan to cover the outlay.

Printers will also find the EnergyMaps service useful to help them achieve ISO14001 certification. Enigin regional director Steve Hayden told printweek.com: "Electricity is one of the dirtiest energies, but because of this it's also one of the cheapest [environmental problems] to rectify."

More information is available at the Enigin website.
