Mediaport adds finishing capacity with Ashgate spend

Litho and digital specialist Mediaport has increased its finishing capacity after installing a raft of new kit.

Following the installation of a Ricoh Pro C900 press, Chesham, Buckinghamshire-based Mediaport bought a Kasfold Sprint 3000 bookletmaker from Ashgate Automation. Also included in the spend was a Duplo collator and an MB35 folder.

The Kasfold replaces a secondhand machine bought from Ashgate two years ago, which the company said would have lagged behind the Ricoh for speed. The Sprint edition has a faster clutch and also features an on-line trimmer.

Managing director Scott Buckle said: "We wanted to increase the productivity of our finishing line. It has saved us 35 working hours a week because we previously had to take the job off the bookletmaker and trim it on a guillotine."

He added that the company now had a more comprehensive digital finishing line, which means it can keep control of all of its finishing in-house, whereas previously it has outsourced some work.

"We’ve won a new contract on the back of this investment," he said.

Mediaport specialises in promotional merchandise and design and produces around 25,000-30,000 digitally printed booklets each month.
