Roland DG to 'transform' metallic printing with latest SolJet offering

Roland DG has launched the first metallic inkjet printer, the SolJet Pro III XC-540MT, which it claims has "transformed" the metallic printing process.

The wide-format solvent printer and cutter can combine silver ink with CMYK, producing a raft of metallic-coloured effects that are compatible with both plastic and paper stocks, enabling applications such as wraps, decals and banners.

Roland DG is targeting the 54in model, which uses the manufacturer's Eco Sol Max inks, at commercial display printers, as well as label and packaging producers.

A double-white (CMYK+WW) model without the metallic option is also available for users that want to create high-opacity white text, graphics and other elements.

According to Brett Newman, head of product management at Roland DG UK, the SolJet has transformed a printing process that could only previously be carried out on other systems.

"For the first time, users can take full advantage of Roland’s advanced inkjet technology to produce brilliant metallic graphics on-demand – easily, profitably, and in any quantity," he said.

The 540MT can print at a maximum speed of 41sqm an hour, at a maximum resolution of 1,440dpi. It also features an advanced ink circulation system that is claimed to help cut ink consumption by up to 84% over previous Roland DG models.

The Roland SolJet Pro III XC-540MT will retail at £25,999, with limited quantities available from the end of November.
